3th Grade Mathematics     Ενότητα 7 Chapter.43
(Greek educational system)

Materials for the lesson

a large piece of paper by the meter,
A4 papers,
water colours in 3 colours,
brushes.
Teacher’s  bell

Layout of the classroom

we empty a space to lay the large paper

1st Phase

The explains to the children the symmetry and from were it originates

2d Phase

We lay down the paper.

The children draw a straight river in the middle of the paper. The teacher encourages to find «creatures of arithmetic» that live on the one side of the river. Numbers and geometric forms.

3d Phase

The paper is hanged on the blackboard.

The class returns to its standards and the teacher explains symmetry. Names the river «axon of symmetry». Counts how far the shapes are from the axon and finds them equal…….

4d Phase
Apart from the questions asked by the teacher he/she can encourage exercises to evaluate the lesson.
In small papers the teacher has prepared half shapes, half a flower, half a fish or butterfly

Asks from the children to draw the other half, symmetric part that is missing. The end drawings can be hanged on the sides of the river/axon.
