Materials for the class

Sun and moon figures – made of plastic or paper

Pictures with different actions (getting up/ lying down, eating, tooth brushing, playing games, watching TV, etc.) and a number from 0 to 24 – as many as the students in the class. The numbers indicate the time of the action.

Two baskets

Layout of the classroom

Desks are aside. There is only one desk in front of the board in the room. The baskets are placed on it. The pictures are in the baskets. All chairs are in a semicircle in the middle of the room.

Phase 1

The students sit on the chairs. The teacher gives everyone a symbol of “sun” and “moon”. He/she says that all children in class will be actors in “Theater day and night”.

Each student will draw a picture from the basket. He has to say aloud the number from the picture and to play without words, only with mimics and gestures, the action from the picture. The other students must guess. The drawn picture is placed in the empty basket.

 Phase 2

The teacher gives the beginning of the game with the words “Let’s play in the Theater Day and night!”

A student goes to the baskets and draws a picture. (For example, it is eating and the number is 18. He stands in front of the other students. He says aloud only the number – the time of the action. He shows the action of the picture with mimics and gestures. The students must guess what is shown in the picture having in mind the number. In the example given, the answer of the other children should be: dinner. All students must raise one of the symbols (in this case “moon”) and they must say the answer.

Phase 3

In case of difficulty:

Students may also ask additional questions that may be answered by shaking heads for “yes” or “no”.

The teacher can hinder children by opposing the action of the picture with the number from the picture – for example: a child plays football – 3. This role can be played by the teacher himself, he is sleeping, but he is dreaming how he is playing football.

Phase 4

The game ends when the all students draw a picture from the basket.
