Pro Rodopi Foundation (PRF) is one of the most prominent independent Bulgarian cultural organizations. It is an NGO – a private foundation for public benefit, according to Bulgarian law. It has been established in 2000 with the aim to break through the existing mainstream state infrastructure and to create new model of producing cultural projects in Bulgaria.

In 2004 PRF has launched Pro Rodopi Art Centre (PRAC) in the village of Bostina in rural Central Rhodopes mountain. PRAC is the only Bulgarian member of Trans Europe Halles, www.teh.net. Productions created in PRAC have been touring over 25 countries in 4 continents  and they have received various prestigious national and international awards. PRF organizes Adults Forbidden International Theatre festival in Smolyan, and Aquarius Era festival in Bourgas.

PRF has been working with many partners, donors and sponsors so far incl. Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria, Municipality of Smolyan, European Cultural Foundation, Pro Helvetia, KulturKontakt, Trust for Mutual Understanding New York, Asia-Europe Foundation a.o.

Pro Rodopi Foundation has a large experience with working with children from all ages – from babies and infants to teenagers. One of the main lines in the activities of the foundation is developing theatre and educational projects for children – including producing theatre productions and making workshop and courses for kids. So far the foundation has produced several very popular productions for kids – ‘Chick with a Trick’, ‘Garbage for Plums’, ‘Yellow’, ‘Hotch-Potch’ etc, which have over 500 performances not only in Bulgaria, but also in over 20 countries worldwide. Beside that the foundation regularly organizes theatrical workshops with children which aim is to develop their creativity and to learn though theatre games. The secretary general of Pro Rodopi Foundation desislava Mincheva currently is a leader of a regular theatre classes on weekly basis for kids from primay schools in Smolyan, organized together with Ustovo Community Centre. She is also leading on weekly theatre classes for kindergartens in Smolyan, organized together with United Children complex by Smolyan Municipality.

PRF has produced and maintained over 40 artistic, educational and socio-cultural projects of local, national and international importance so far.  PRF has received grants as a co-organizer in 3 projects funded by EU programs.
