Phase 2

Giving students a detailed explanation of what to do

The teacher tells the students that it is an important day for them today because vowels will be their guests and calls the vowels into the classroom.

Students wearing a letter necklace becomes a vowel.(Accessories like a wig, a scarf, moustache, glasses can be used.)They enter the classroom and introduce themselves.

“Hello! I am A. I am a thick and wide vowel.”

“Hello! I am E. I am a thin and wide vowel.”

“Hello! I am I. I am a thick and close vowel.”

“Hello! I am İ. I am a thin and close vowel.”

“Hello! I am O. I am a thick and wide vowel.”

“Hello! I am Ö. I am a thin and wide vowel.”

“Hello! I am U. I am a thick and closed vowel.”

“Hello! I am Ü. I am a thin and closed vowel.”

Then the teacher says ’Our closed vowels are lazy today. Do you agree if we invite you ‘closed vowels’ instead of them?

The closed vowels come on stage immediately. The teacher calls “O,M,Z” and a ‘U’ and writes the word OMUZ: Another ‘U’ runs to the stage from the back and stands at the and of the word. The guest ‘U’ which is in the middle begins to complain. ’We are addicted to our comfort. Please don’t push me or I will drop.’ And suddenly it falls down. The word can be pronounced better now. Not “OMUZU” but“OMZU”.  The ‘U’ whish stays at the end of the word shouts. ’Thats what ı call Haplology. The words

“GÖĞÜS,ŞEHİR,ALIN” also want to host vowels but the landlord letters are not hospitable and the vowels in these words also drop and the words change as “GÖĞSÜ,ŞEHRI,ALNI” biçimine dönüşür biz bu olaya “ÜNLÜ DÜŞMESİ”deriz

Phase 3

Assessment of the study

Do only closed vowels(ı,i,u,ü)drop?

Are there other vowels except (ı,i,u,ü) in the Turkish language?

Is a word pronounced easier when the closed vowels (ı,i,u,ü) drop?
