Kamishibaipaper theater (see picture below) or cardboard box trasformed in a small theater, white sheetsmeasure A3, markers, colored pencils, pencil-eraser-pencil sharpener.

Layout of the classroom

Classroom desks are organized into small groups

Phase 1

The teacher explains to the students that the subject of the lesson will be the origin of the universe. She introduces a theoretical part that tells about the different phases of the universe’s birth: Big Bang, Earth Crust Formation, Volcanoes, Rain and Sea and Oceans Formation, Water Life Development (Unicellulas, Seaweeds, Fish), Vertebrates Amphibians land, reptiles and dinosaurs.

Phase 2

After the theoretical explanation part, the different phases of the earth’s origin are identified and written on the blackboard. The students are divided into small groups. Each group will choose on phase and work on it. Each group will be given a drawing sheet to draw an illustration. The illustration should cover the entire sheet space as much as possible and be visible from afar.

The teacher will, in the meantime, write the story of the origin of the universe divided into the different phases.

Phase 3

When each group has completed its illustration, the teacher delivers the piece of story to be rewritten behind the tables.

Warning!

Due to the structure of the Kamishibai,  it’s better to write the explanation of the first picture on the back of the last picture, and the explanation of the second on the back of the first. In this fashion while the first image is shown, the reader can read (from the back of the last picture) the right explanation. When the first picture will be put behind the last, he will read on its back the explanation of the second picture, and so on.

Phase 4

Teacher collects all the illustrated tables and places them in the theater or in the cardboard box (the box must have a central rectangular opening to see the images, a back opening to read the text, and two fissure on both sides to insert the boards and pull out the pictures).

When the theatre is ready, the teacher can begin the narrative of the origin of the earth.
