Materials for the lesson

A flashlight with strong light

An average sized baking pan.

A piece of aluminum foil.

A long cable with a lamp wrapped in aluminum foil. The aluminum foil does not cover the entire lamp, but leaves a gap of 4 cm

Teacher’s bell

Layout of the classroom

The desks form a boat, in the best way they can. In the middle of this formation, there is a gap where the baking pan is almost filled with water and the teacher lets the aluminum foil float, it can easily be shaken by floating in the water.

1st Phase

The teacher tells the children that today they will travel in the sea and see the games of light on the wavy surface.

With the flashlight, we light-up the water in the pan, vertically, from the top to the bottom. The reflections that the light makes on the surface of the water, in relation with the movement of the aluminum foil, form reflections that we can see on the ceiling of the classroom. With partial darkness, we have the illusion of the sea.

2nd Phase

Opposite the formed boat, a student or the teacher lights up the lighthouse and turns the beam around as the lighthouse does.

The game can be developed with some dialogues between the boat crew.

The very important lesson of Light has been  developed in 3 creative lessons that can be done in 2 or 3 courses.
