Materials for the lesson
A long cable with a lamp.A bed-sheet of light color (white or beige)The Teacher’s Bell |
Layout of the classroom
The desks at the edge, empty space in the middle. Two desks rise up to a distance of about two meters between each other, so as to stretch the sheet in between and form curtain for the shadows.Skewer (kebab) sticks.A light blackout in the classroom.1st Phase A short process of handicraft and painting. We paint various shapes and drawings, inspired by the lesson.(A lighthouse, a frythoria (sequence of communication fires in ancient times), round shapes that are photons, candles, candlesticks, a tree, a house, a man, etc.)We pass the skewer-sticks from the shapes so that we can handle them from a distance on the sheet/curtain2nd PhaseFirst Location of Light source: Some of the children are behind the sheet/curtain and the lamp is behind the children. So, we have the sheet/curtain (stretched between the two upright desks), the children with the figures and then the lamp. When the lamp lights up, we see the shadow of the children’s silhouette on the sheet/curtain, because the light source is from behind. If the lamp moves right to the left, the shadow of the children is also moving on the curtain.Second Location of The Light Source: The teacher changes the position of the light source. He/She transports the lamp between the children and the curtain. Now the figures made by the children look embossed with their shadows on the sheet and the children can make them alive.
