The Teacher’s Bell

Layout of the classroom

The classroom needs space for action as we will be working with imitating animals and moving around and freezing in many shapes.

Phase 1

Starting  from  A

Having as an epicenter the word AGALMA (statue), the teacher creates a creative lesson based on improvisation.
We remain with letter A.
The children walk in the center making some random movements.                                                                                                     The bell sounds and everyone freezes. The children have to create a statue, that the teachers asks ( animal tree or bird etc) in the shape and behavior of it)

The teacher presents a word starting with A:

Apple Tree (all the children freeze in the shape of a tree with their hands up in the sky like branches)
Anaconda (all the children create the shape of a  big serpent)
Then one can find a behavior or a well known shape starting with letter A. According to different languages.

Phase 2

1.    One can find animals and, shapes or movements starting with the all the letters aof the alphabet.

Animals shape, sound and movement

2.    Teacher says  CAT  ( all children imitate the shape and sound of the cat as a statue) When the bell sounds, they freeze in that shape.
Teachers says  SEAGULL  ((all the children create the shape and flying of the bird)

3.   Teacher says  DOG  ( all children imitate the shape and sound of the dog ) When the bell sounds, they freeze in that shape.

4.           Teachers says  LION  (all the children create the large shape, behaviour and roar of the king of the jungle)

etc.

Phase 3

There are many improvisations that  a teacher can create according to the various letters.

MOVEMENT IMPROVISATIONS
– Z-
ZIG-ZAG : κwe move around all together like a train but in zig-zag  direction. First goes the teacher.

 –R
-RIGHT-  The improvisation   is done with moving –R- Right and then –L-Left.

 –D
DOWN : we all sit down
U
UP: We all stand up.

SOUND IMPROVISATIONS

At – B
BUG : We all make the characteristic sound of buzzzzing….

At  –D
DONKEY: We all make the characteristic sound of the donkeys voice.
At –D
DOG:  We all make the characteristic sound of the dog barking.

OR COULD BE DUCK

Στο –C
CHICKET or CAT: We all make the characteristic sound of the cat meowing.

Phase 4

We return to the descs and the teacher writes down/records the leeters he /she wants from the alphabet.  Many times the game is aided by the sounds the children made while imitating during sound improvisations.

CHICKET= ko ko ko
DUCK = pa pa pa (or different in other languages)
BUG=  bz bz bz

A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO THE LESSON

The creative lesson  can be reversed.
The Teacher can give sounds from the sites.

https://seaworld.org/en/Animal-Info/Animal-Sounds
http://soundbible.com/tags-animal.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPdOfXqY5OM
Birds
http://soundbible.com/tags-bird.html
http://www.enature.com/birding/audio.asp

And the children can recognize the sounds, animal or bird.  Then using the letters  expressed by the children to write sowing the letters of the alphabet.
As in different languages the letters of how an animal sounds and the according animal do not always much… ajust accordingly.

Is ssssssssssssssssssssss a SNAKE, or meowing a CAT… etc
