Materials for the lesson

Phase 1. Music and a music player.

Phase 2. A letter of Alphabet for each student.

Layout of the classroom

Phase 1, 2 and 3. The classroom setting is empty to move freely.

Phase  4. The normal classroom setting.

Phase 1

The class stands in a circle. The teacher asks the students to move in the classroom freely with music and then whenever the music stops. The students will be pair and ask some questions in each turn.

–       What month are you born in?

–       What is the first letter of your first name?

–       What is the first letter of your family name?

Phase 2

When the previous activity finishes the teacher asks the students to make a line without speaking to each other.

a.    From January to December

b.    From A – Ö for the first name

c.     From A – Ö for the family name.

The teacher lets the students communicate with body language. When the students are ready for the month of birth, the teacher asks to students to tell their birth date to check if the line is correct. Same process will be followed for the name and family name line.

Tips to the teacher:  The alphabetic line is based on Swedish alphabet. And each teacher can follow the alphabet of his or her country.

Phase 3

The teacher gives each student a letter of the alphabet. The teacher helps the class to line up in the order of the alphabet.

They sing this alphabet song with together. The teacher asks the students to walk around the class.  When the music stops the students make the line again with the alphabetic order.

Phase 4

The teacher asks the students to write down all letters on a paper and find some words that start with same letter.

A: Apple

B: Balloon

C: Cake

D: Donkey

Etc…

The students write down on their paper as many words as possible. Then the teacher asks the students to tell their words in alphabetic order.
