Layout of the classroom

A normal classroom atmosphere

Phase 1

The teacher shows a list of many different animals such as mammals, amphibians, etc. And asks the students to choose one of them individually without telling anybody in the class. Each student will be that animal for a day. The teacher gives them for a few minutes and asks them to write a few sentences about that animal by creating their thoughts and feelings as well.

Dialogue Example

–        I am a dolphin. I can swim. I live in the sea. Now I am sad because I am in the pool.

Phase 2

For the second part each student will come in front of the class and mimes the animal he or she has chosen. The other students try to guess the animal by saying its name English. If the students don’t know it in English it can be said with their mother tongue and the teacher can translate it into English.

The activity goes on until each student mimes his or her animal.

Dialogue Example

–        The student mimes the animal and asks: What am I?

–        One student: You are a frog.

Phase 3

In the third part of the activity each student comes to the blackboard and reads the animal which she or he has written about without saying its name. This time the other students will call the name of the animal. If they cannot find its name the teacher helps them to find the name. The activity goes on until each student reads what they have written about their chosen animal.

Dialogue Example

–        I am an amphibian. I am green. I have got four legs and I leap. I can live in the water but not in the salty water. I am not happy because the water is dirty now. Can you guess my name?
