Cardboards/A4 sheets; markers; string; scissors.

Layout of the classroom

The class should be empty, but chairs and other objects should be available to create imaginary doors.

Phase 1

Firstly the teacher should explain the main rules about syllables and spelling.

Phase 2

Children write twice the alphabet on cardboards and everyone hang 2 letters on his/her neck with a string. The teacher suggests words that children have to compose, creating groups and using one of the letter they have.

Phase 3

Then the teacher tells this tale:

I’m the guardian of the Kingdom of Words. Words can enter the Kingdom only through doors, but they have to divide themselves into groups: just 2 or 3 letters can enter at the same time. For this reason it’s important to divide words correctly. Wrongly divided words won’t have access to the Kingdom.

Phase 4

After this exercise made with body, children repeat the same game on their notebook.
