Layout of the classroom

The classroom needs space for action.

The   teacher   puts   the   chairs   next   to   each   other and children are asked to sit on the carpet floor.

The teacher has hung a cardboard with a number on each child’s chest.

The music begins.

Phase 1s

The   teacher   tells    children   to   start   counting   from 1 to  20  and  each  of  them  gets  up  and  shows   the number it  represents.

The teacher choose randomly a number (for example 13) and the child that has this number runs quickly and sits on the first left chair. Student that represent the following four    consecutive   numbers   run  and  sit  on  the  other  chairs  in the right order (14,15 16 17 ).

This is repeated several times with the other numbers.

Phase 2

Now the teacher choose a number (19) and the children should run and sits on the last left chair. In this phase they must  descend  from  the  number 19  consecutively  4  numbers  ( 18 , 17 ,16, 15).

This is repeated also several times with the other numbers.

Phase 3

In  this  phase  teacher  choose  again  a  number ( 12) and the child with that number should now sits in the middle of the chair row and those having  the two previous and the two following  numbers must take their places.

This is also repeated with other numbers.

Phase 4

Student go back to their desks and they continue the course of the corresponding mathematical chapter. What they have gained is a deeper understanding of number sequence in a playful way.
