 Materials for the class

12 cardboards

Two arrows one smaller than the other as one is for minute hand the other is for hour hand.

10 or 15 cardboards on which different times are written (10:15pm), (04:50am), (11:30am), (10:00), etc.

 Layout of the classroom

There must be enough space for the activity. Either leave enough space or do it in the garden.

Phase 1

The teacher tells the students that they are going to play a game and the name of the game is journey in the time. For this they are going to draw a clock on the ground.

The teacher draws a shape of clock on the ground with a piece of chalk. They write numbers on each piece of cardboard to represent time. For each number two students are selected and are placed around the clock. The students represent each number stands back to back carrying the cardboard on which the numbers are written.  So one student faces inside the clock and the other pair faces outside the clock. When telling the time in the afternoon (PM) the pairs change their positions. And two other students selected to represent minute hand and hour hand.

 Phase 2

They start the game when the music plays. The teacher shows the time such as

10:10 am. The minute hand and the hour hand either rolling on the ground or dancing in the clock try to find their places. When finally they go to the right place and stand there the music stops.

The teacher asks the other students if the place of minute hand and clock hand is correct or not.  If it is not correct all the students make the correction through the supervisor of the teacher.

Phase 3

Two other students are selected to represent minute hand and hour hand to show a different time which is called by the teacher. And the play goes on until every student in the class takes part in the activity in the role of minute hand and hour hand.

Dialogue:

Teacher: What’s the time?

Students: It’s four o’clock.
