Layout of the classroomSpace in the middle of the classroomDesks-chairs by the wallA circle that has been made by the teacher in the middle of the class, with the chalk , spacious enough for 2 students to lie downTeacher has also marked the hours of the clock around the circle. |
Phase 1Students begin to count, in successive order, the clock’s hours (1,2,3,…12) and the minutes of the hour (5,10,15….60 ) and each time the teacher shows with the stick the hours and minutes on the ground clock.Teacher gives the 24 cards with hour and minutes to the students and they place them on their clothes with a paper clip . |
Phase 2Now teacher says that it will randomly say an hour (e.g. 2:10) and the students which have the corresponding cards should lie on the ground clock, showing with their bodies the time. The other students stand around the circle and consider whether the two students have taken the right places on the clock and make corrections if needed. Then they repeat the hour that children have formed with their bodies. This repeated several times and this phase ends when all students have participated. |
Phase 3In this phase two students that play the clock indicators decide secretly a random hour and they place their bodies on the hour and minute of the ground clock. The other students must find the time that has been formed by the two lying students. This is repeated many times , so that all the couples of the students have played the clock indicators. |
Phase 4The class returns to its first form and the students sit at their desks and open their books on the corresponding chapter. Teacher has not many things to explain from this chapter as the students have gain a deeper understanding of the clock hours through that game. |
