Italian regions
5th Grade – Geography
Materials for the classMap of Italy without labels, white cardboards, pencils, scissors, scotch |
Layout of the classroomThe task will be performed in the classroom. |
Phase 1Using a political map, the teacher explains the Italian division into regions. She/he should pay attention on different traditions, costumes and habits that characterize each region (a book with images about Italian regions would be useful). |
Phase 2The children are divided into groups, one for each region. Every group has the task to draw the typical aspects of the region (monuments, activities, crops,…). When everyone is done with the task, the teacher collects the drawings and puts them in boxes (every region has a box). |
Phase 3The teacher hangs the map of Italy on the wall and explains the game: the teacher says the name of a region and the children (one at a time) choose a drawing from the box and put it in the right position on the map. The game lasts till the drawings are finished. |
Phase 4The teacher comments the activity with the class. |
