Phase 1The teachers explains that there is a difference between pronunciation and spelling/writing of many of the verbs in Bulgarian language. This is due to the fact that last sound of the word is a vowel and very often we hear a sound different that the letter it is written. Like ‘четa’ (read) become ‘четъ’ (the specific sound written with letter Ъ in Bulgarian language. This is called ‘reduction’ in phonetics. In order to understand better what the case is when one writes or speaks, a game will be played.

Phase 2The class is divided in two equal by members teams “Yellow” and ‘’Violet’’. The teacher gives to every member of each team either yellow or violet flower. The game has two parts: What is right when we write? What is right when we speak? |
Phase 3First part: What is right when we write? The teacher writes a verb on the classboard with the big letters with magnets, e.g. ЧETA (read) – the right way when one writes or ЧЕТЪ – the right way when one speaks. She asks one teammember of ‘Yellow’ group: When we write, Is this wrong or right? If the pupil answer wrong, she takes the yellow flower from him/her and gives him/her a violet one, so he/she becomes a member of ‘Violet’ team. The teacher write on classboard a new verb for every pupil. At the end of first part the winner team is this with more members than the other one. |
