Materials for the lesson

This exercise takes place outside so pupils must be dressed for the occasion. All groups (2 pupils) must also have something to blindfold each other with.

Layout of the classroom

Exercise takes place outside in nature. Preferably some place where you can observe a lot of different things.

 Phase 1

Teacher divides the class into small groups of 2. Try to do it so the “best friends” don’t always get together. Give each group one blindfold.

phase 2

One in the group starts by getting blindfolded. The other person will lead and explain/describe the place around them and letting the other person only use his senses (feel, taste, hearing, smell). Now the leading person is supposed to make up a story using the surrounding terrain. The one leading must use his/her imagination from what he/she sees to help the story. E.g. if he/she sees a cloud that looks like a bunny he/she can use that in the story. E.g. 2. a tree that looks like a ship.

Phase 3

Now remove the blindfold and walk the same route that was used to make up the story. The once before blindfolded will now react to the object used to the story. Was it anything like he/she imagined?

Phase 4

Now the pupils switch roles.

Phase 5

Now teacher will blindfold the whole class. Make them all hold hands so you all walk in a long train. The teacher will now have prepared a walk with a story with things he/she sees. Then you take of the blindfolds and show the class what you “really” were seeing. Imagination is a strong tool in the language.
