Layout of the classroom

The classroom needs space for action.

Phase 1

The teacher begins a preamble about the people who live in the village  and  in  the city. He/she asks student to find differences between the lifestyle of these people. With teacher’s help, they  find that people who live at  village,  abide in detached  houses, while people at cities, abide in apartments blocks. People at village deal in agriculture, animal husbandry, fishing, have no cinemas, theatres and generally, entertainment is limited. They don’t have access in hospitals and medical services and they have troubles in transit and marine transports. They have better relationships and strong bonds as people  in  village interact with others.

On the other side, life in city is totally different. People have many problems to solve: lack of free spaces, air pollution, loneliness.

Phase 2

In this phase, teacher suggest to the student to divided into two groups. The group that live in the city and the group that live in the village. Each student of the group,  will  give a monologue, describing the advantages or  disadvantages of his/her place. For example:

-I am a farmer. I live in a village. I love my place because I feel free, I live in a house  with  a  big  yard and I smell the fresh air. I have many friends which they help me to deal with my difficulties

Or

I live in Athens. I feel so lonely. I live in an apartment and I don’t know anyone.   In  my  free  time,  I watch t.v .and   I play video games.

Or

I hate the traffic jam but I love my city. It has a lot of museums, theaters and festivities. I never feel boring.

Teacher’s bell rings,  cd goes on and act begins.

Phase 3

In this phase, teacher suggests to  close  their eyes and imagine that they  are somewhere in the  village or in the city. . They should say, what they hear, who  they  meet, what they see and how they feel. The other should guess if they are in the city or in the village.  For example:

I am hearing the bird’s songs and roosters crow. I can see high trees, green gardens and open spaces. I am hearing the talks of the people in the neighborhood and the children’s laughs. I meet a farmer, a beekeeper and they smile to me/

or

I am hearing the traffic’s noises and car’s braking. I am smelling the exhaust  from  the  cars  and  chimneys . I  can  see many cars, shops,   buses, taxies , hurried people . I feel so lonely.

 Or

I had an accident. It’s very difficult to find a doctor. What can I do;

Teacher’s bell rings and the act begins.

Phase 4

Students return to their desks and the teacher presents the course with the known traditional form. The students through that act, have totally understand the different  lifestyle, and   the advantages and disadvantages  the people who live in the country and city  have,  which is the goal of this lesson.
